If your kitchen is the heart of your home, then your living room is definitely the soul. Your living room is where you hold meaningful conversations with your most important friends and family. It’s where you choose to relax and recuperate after a hard day’s work. It’s where you spend time snuggling up with your significant other. In reality, it’s where you spend most of your time at home. I would honestly argue that it truly is the most important room in the house.
Which is why making it the most beautiful room in the house has some pretty obvious merit. In fact, giving your living room a bit of tender love and care can truly take it to the next level, making it the perfect spot for both relaxing and entertaining. And the bonus? It doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.
In fact, by following the 5 simple tips outlined in this article you can take give your living room a much-needed upgrade, quickly and easily making it the most beautiful room in your home.
1. Rearrange Your Furniture

One very easy way to change the entire feel of your living room is to rearrange your furniture – and to be completely honest, I’m not even talking about a complete overhaul. Simply altering the layout of the room can make a huge difference in not only how the room looks, but also how it functions. According to PsychologyToday.com, rearranging a room also makes you feel better. For example, most people in the modern era have their couches and lounge chairs facing the TV.
While this obviously has merit for those who enjoy watching the TV, it also makes it the centerpiece of the room. This essentially ensures that when anyone is in the living room, they will be staring at the TV – whether it is on or not. A much better option is to organize the room so that the seats within the room actually face each other (ideally with a coffee table in the middle). This is a great way to make the room feel more inviting, while also better facilitating conversation between friends and family. A win-win if I have ever seen one.
2. Introduce Some Texture

The word texture makes most of us think of how something feels in a physical sense, which is true in most settings – however, not regarding design. You see, by adding some textured pieces to your living room you can seriously increase its visual appeal. The addition of textured fabric creates some contrast to the fabric that makes up the lounges, chairs, and furniture in your living room.
Some of the best (and most affordable) ways to add texture come in the form of cushions and throw rugs. These can easily be layered about the room on different pieces of furniture to really improve how it looks – and as an added bonus, this same approach can seriously increase how expensive those pieces of furniture appear.
3. Get Timely

One of my favorite ways to create a new spin on an old room is through the addition of a feature object. This wall clock from Thomas Kent Clocks stands out above all else within the room in the picture above. It draws your attention, and keep you interested in it – no matter how long you look at it. That’s usually the intent of a wall clock.
Not only does the addition of a wall clock into your living room provide the perfect feature to lift the entire feel of the room, but it also serves an important functional purpose – to tell the time. When you choose a wall clock to act as the feature piece of your living room, I generally believe that going a little bit bigger is better. Within this, I also recommend choosing colors that stand out against the neutral colors of most furniture. You essentially want it to offer a point of difference to your living room – so feel free to go a little crazy here.
4. Become One with Nature

One of my favorite living room design tips revolves around the concept of bringing a little bit of outside, inside. What the hell am I talking about?Indoor plants immediately add a touch of natural color to your living room that cannot be obtained through artificial means. While this can obviously enhance the entire look of the living room, exposure to living plants has also been shown to have a positive impact on mood.
They literally make you feel better and filter/clean your air. Now I appreciate that not all of you are green thumbs (I am certainly not), nor will every one of you have a whole lot of time available to keep your plants alive – which is why choosing hardy, easy, and beautiful plants is the key.
Some of my favorites that seem to stay alive no matter what you do include:
- Swiss cheese plant (also known as Monstera deliciosa)
- Devils ivy (also known as Epipremnum aureum)
- Peace lily (also known as Spathiphyllum)
- Mother-in-law’s Tongue (also known as Sansevieria)
Each of these are great options they not only look amazing, but they only need to be watered about once per week. Absolutely perfect if you ask me!
5. Display Some Photos

When I think about my childhood home, I remember two key things – my mums amazing home cooked meals and seeing photos of our family absolutely everywhere .But since the adoption of the phone camera, and the rise of social media, physical images have become less and less common. Which is a shame. You see, these sorts of images can really add a personal touch to your living room. They provide a streak of emotional significance that really cannot be found through any other means, while offering a unique design factor that differentiates your living room from everyone else’s.
And obviously, their visual appeal is apparent. So, with all this in mind, one of the easiest ways to increase the design quality of your living room is to find your favorite photos, then print them off and hang them up. The frames can be the cheapest ones you can find – its really the image that matters here! Check out frame arrangements on Pinterest for ideas. Shop for frames online at Level Frames or Frame Bridge.
