Creatopy Passive Office: Get an Overview About It

This is the tale of how Creatopy Passive Office built its brand while keeping the concept of sustainability in mind. Sustainability is a concept that they strongly believe in, and thus, they decide to implement the concept of sustainability in this project. They decided to shape a passive building for their office, made entirely by means of wood, employing cross-laminated timber. The outcome is spectacular, a low-energy edifice with a truncated environmental impact.

How the Building Came to Life?

The inception of this project started in 2019 when they realized that their then-building could no longer be able to fit in their team. They needed a new home, so when they sowed the idea of this project in their minds, they had kept in mind the consideration of the impact that an average office building imprints on the environment.

That was why a wooden construction was a no-brainer for them, more precisely, a cross-laminated timber building was their priority.

Whether we believe it or not, buildings have an irrefutable strong impact on the environment. The research studies corroborate the fact as almost 40% of energy and process-related emanations come from buildings. As one would expect, buildings play an enormous role in plummeting the residents’ quality of life.

Nonetheless, the glad tidings are that there are numerous worldwide initiatives to lessen CO2 emanations in the building industry, including the recently implement NZEB (nearly zero energy buildings) legislation in the European Union.

The founder and CEO of the company, Gabriel Ciordas, says he has always wanted to create an office building made of wood, using cross-laminated timber, that would be beneficial and healthy not only for the environment but also for the company’s employees.

So, he along with the project manager got hold of an avant-garde engineer, who was in charge of numerous identical constructions and requested him over for discussions. Straight away, their team got hold of a native architect team and explained to them their dream of making a sustainable building.

Thereafter, the team of architects leaped up to the challenge, and after conducting various internal surveys with the help of some of their team members, they came up with an intricate design that meshed flawlessly into the hills-dominated scenery while also adjusting to their exact needs and stipulations.

1. Stating the Facts on Creatopy’s New Sustainable Home

Stating the Facts on Creatopy’s New Sustainable Home
  • Creatopys passive office building is the largest CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber), and the only low-energy qualifiy building in Romania and the whole of Eastern Europe. It measures roughly around 2,400 square meters.
  • It absorbs seven times less energy than a typical building made of bricks and concrete.
  • It is powered by electricity, and by utilizing this sort of energy source, they save up to twelve tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere yearly, just to heat in the chilly season.
  • The foundation comprises more than 2,000 cubic meters of reprocessing foam glass.
  • They also save up to 1600 kg of carbon dioxide per cubic meter by building a wooden structure rather than a frame made of pure concrete and bricks, which results in a sum of 1424 tons of carbon dioxide saved in the whole building process.
  • Overall, they used 890 cubic meters of wood, which renders into 490 full-grown trees (fir and spruce) which means two trees per user, meaning the building can host up to 245 people.
  • The building contains 819 prefab panels manufacture in Austria, with widths from 120mm to 280mm, designing to the smallest of details on a computer. The span of the production of these panes was four days; they were transported to Romanian in 25 trucks.
  • The design of the Creatopy passive office went on track in March 2019, and the execution began in July 2019.
  • The entire conglomeration of the CLT structure was done in 44 days, with the help of a team of ten people, and the entire edifice, from the inception to the end, was ready in less than a year (and that is 2.5 faster than a regular building).

2. Why Build a Low-Energy Office Building?

Build a Low-Energy Office Building

The chief philosophy behind the passive houses emphasizes two principal aspects:

Reducing the Energy Consumption

Out of the two, the first one refers to decreasing the energy utilization, which is extremely necessary to uphold comfort conditions up to 90%, particularly vis-à-vis the cooling and heating energy, which is two-three times lesser than the needed electric energy in traditional buildings.

By constructing a passive building, you meaningfully lessen the harmful impact on the environment as it also makes it possible that these edifices work on renewable energy.

Increased Comfort

The last aspect is connect with the proliferating degree of comfort in the building. The changes in seasons are tactile and tangible, and during the year, comfort may fluctuate. The thermal comfort is at its peak, and the indoor temperature is relentless.

3. What the Future Holds?

Future Holds

At the G8 meeting in the year 2009 to discuss the global emanation cuts, the group was adamant on the target of reducing global emissions by 80% by the year 2050.

Keeping in mind that buildings are accountable for more than 40% of the amount, it was crystal clear that the building industry would have to become accustomed to the new reality— and that was, to become more innovative and wiser when it comes to the longstanding consequences of its products.

Passive buildings are an outstanding substitute for strait-laced constructions as their energy savings equal emissions reductions. If we take a glance at the current situation of the quick shortening of non-renewable resources, we can conclude that they are an investment for the future.
